On my travels abroad, I have been glad to see many women travellers exploring the world on their own terms. In the beginning I naively thought that Indian women perhaps do not travel much simply because I hadn’t met any on my own travels. I’m glad I was wrong about that. Since starting this blog, I have been lucky to meet some female travellers who have travelled further and longer than I have.
Today, on the occasion of Women’s Day today, I decided to write about five women travellers from India whom I’ve met and who will inspire you to pack those bags and travel as well. There are many other female travellers but this list is limited only to those I have met and known personally. While I don’t exactly endorse celebrating Women’s Day, this is as good a time as any to feature some other travellers to readers of this blog. Don’t worry, I promise I’ll other bloggers in due time as well.
Megha Jamb
Megha Jamb runs Travelling Is. Her writing focuses not just on travel but also other aspects such as food and interviews with other travellers. I also particularly am fond of her blog because I got to travel to Goa last year because of her. Thank you Megha and keep up the good work!
Neelima Vallangi
I met Neelima on my Goa trip and her level of dedication was surprising. She sat up almost all night to complete a story for BBC. That explains why she is one of India’s top bloggers. She has written about India for various prestigious publications and her Instagram series in January was a viral hit beyond measure. You can read her blog here.
Rutavi Mehta
Rutavi Mehta is a multi-tasker. She runs the popular travel blog Photokatha and is also the point of contact for Travel Massive in Mumbai. In the past, she has been a part of the Kerala Blog Express, participated in a 3000-km long Rickshaw Run in India and even climbed Mt Everest’s Base Camp. When I met her over lunch, she was busy conceptualising a family camp outside Mumbai for Christmas last year.
Shivya Nath
Shivya Nath doesn’t like the idea of celebrating Women’s Day but no story on Indian bloggers can be complete without her. Her meditative writing and adventurous story has catapulted The Shooting Star to the top of Indian travel blogs. I met her during a meetup she had organised in Mumbai with fellow travellers and her energy was infectious. There was little doubt that many travellers looked up to her stories – and rightly so. She has travelled far and wide and her blogs reflect the best of what travel can do to us. Spend some time on her blog to know what I mean.
Ansoo Gupta
Last but not the least, Ansoo Gupta is the brains behind travel workshop Come, Plan, Go. Ansoo decodes common travel myths and gathered participants talk about their travel experiences at the workshop. Ansoo’s own insight into travel is remarkably free of cliché that is typically doled out by travel companies. By advising participants to travel more, use local transport and experience the destination, Ansoo’s workshop is a must-visit for travel wannabes.
