When In Bhutan, Don’t Miss This At Any Cost

Masked dancers performing at the Trongsa dzong in Bhutan during the annual Trongsa festival

Bhutan is one of the most laidback places I have travelled to. People are happy with the basic things in life and don’t have crazy aspirations. All of which changes when they have to celebrate local festivals. These festivals happen rarely, maybe once or twice in a year, and locals flock to enjoy and partake in their traditional festivals. Seeing a festival with locals in Bhutan should be high up on your itinerary.

I was lucky to experience the Trongsa Festival on my recent visit to Bhutan and boy, what an experience it was. I had seen masked dances on television and movies before but nothing prepared me for an actual performance with traditional music and dances. Travelling halfway across Bhutan along broken roads was definitely worth it for this experience.

Here’s a short video of the masked dance shot on an iPod Touch. Enjoy and be sure to subscribe to the channel. Lots more exciting stuff coming soon.
